Light golden color with green highlights. Yeasty bread, vanilla, minerals highlights a generally dark earth and brooding bouquet; perhaps some sur lies in this wine’s creation. Starts of surprisingly with golden apples and a touch of honey providing a marked counterpoint to the nose. Follows on with lemons, tart apples, and pears in a light buttery texture. Finishes with lemon tartness, a wisp of smoke in butter, nearly cheddar texture and flavors. Very interesting and unusual win. It is challenging and demanding but very not overwhelming. Oaked but not heavily, good fruit, but still a homage to Burgudian style, the wine is rich without being big. A bit much if your tastes run to standard expressions of Chardonay. Nice as an aperitif or with steak fish or salmon. Probably would work with hard cheeses as well.
