Pale straw colors with green highlights. Complex aromas of caramel, winter spices, pepper, ripe apples, and slate on the bouquet. Although the wine is barrel fermented and has creamy notes from malolactic fermentation it is still quite fruit focused. Golden apples, ripe pears, and stone fruits predominate. White pepper, nutmeg, and cinnamon offer counterpoints. Texture is smooth and creamy while there is sufficient acid so as not to become coating. Exceptional medium bodied Chardonnay, with solid Finger Lakes slate notes. The wine shows that Red Tail Ridge is a winery to watch. Finishes with orchard fruit themes and pepper and spice contrasts. Some restrained buttery notes. Good balance makes the wine an excellent aperitif. Pair with heartier fish simply grilled or with acid or fruit based sauces. Good bargain.
