North Fork Merlot shows medium colors of ruby and garnet solid to the rim. Aged in 30% new American oak the wine was racked three times and bottled unfiltered. Bouquet shows aromas of vanilla, licorice, blackberry, and a hint of thistle; solid and aromatic. Palate goes thin at first but develops earth themes of thistle and leather with contrasting spice and white pepper notes. Medium bodied red exhibits soft tannins with good acid balance. Overall an earth driven wine. Finish gets spicy and bigish with fruit emerging and a smoky undercurrent; lingering. Could work as a winter aperitif. Pair with lamb roasts.
